Research Interests
My research is primarily concerned with the mechanism of speciation in spider mites (Acari)
and herbivorous insects. I am specifically interested in the evolutionary processes leading to the utilization of different host plants by closely
related mite species. To address such problems, biochemical markers (intra- and inter-specific variations in allozymes and DNA) are coupled with other studies
(morphology, genetics, hybridization capabilities, ecology and life history). By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, a better understanding of the factors
influencing rates of evolution is also expected to be achieved.
